P.E.N member Safiye Can (pronounced John), is a Circassian-German poet. Recipient of Else Lasker-Schüler Poetry Prize, and the Alfred-Müller-Felsenburg Prize for Civil Courage in Literature, she was 2017 GERMAN CAMPUS WEEKS honoree at Northern Arizona University. Marilya Veteto Reese (Professor of German, Northern Arizona University) has been the recipient of DAAD and Fulbright funding over 30+ years as literary translator. Reese’s CAMPUS WEEKS funding by German Embassy/Washington, D.C. brought Safiye Can to the US for her first visit in 2017 and Zehra Çirakfor her second visit in 2018. Reese’s first (co-)translation into German was of Warren Perkin’s PUTREFACTION novel—Navajo LIVE Ein Heavy-Metal Leben imReservat—Hans Schiler Verlag, 2018.
