Recip­i­ent of Else Lasker-Schüler Poet­ry Prize, and the Alfred-Müller-Felsen­burg Prize for Civ­il Courage in Lit­er­a­ture, she was 2017 GERMAN CAMPUS WEEKS hon­oree at North­ern Ari­zona Uni­ver­si­ty. Board mem­ber and co-edi­tor of diehoren, she also serves as cura­tor of Hein­rich Böll Foundation’s Zwis­chen­raum-Bib­lio­thek. Can’s poet­ry debut is Rose und Nachti­gall. www.safiyecan.de

Mar­ilya Vete­to Reese (Pro­fes­sor of Ger­man, North­ern Ari­zona Uni­ver­si­ty) has been the recip­i­ent of DAAD and Ful­bright fund­ing over 30+ years as lit­er­ary trans­la­tor. Reese’s CAMPUS WEEKS fund­ing by Ger­man Embassy/Washington, D.C. brought Safiye Can to the US for her first vis­it in 2017 and Zehra Çirak­for her sec­ond vis­it in 2018. Reese’s first (co-)translation into Ger­man was of War­ren Perkin’s PUTREFACTION nov­el—Nava­jo LIVE Ein Heavy-Met­al Leben imReser­vat—Hans Schiler Ver­lag, 2018.
